Toni Gabaldón, scientific advisor, is an ICREA Research Professor who leads the comparative genomics group at the Institut de Recerca Biomèdica (IRB) and the Barcelona Supercomputing Centre (BSC).
He is a co-founding scientist of Microomics and has more than 25 years of experience in the field of genomics. He trained in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Valencia and earned his PhD in medical sciences at the University of Nijmegen in the Netherlands. He then returned to Spain, completing a postdoctoral fellowship at the Prince Felipe Research Centre, before establishing his research group at the CRG (Barcelona) in 2008. Microomics, a company specialising in one of the pioneering microbiome research lines in Spain, emerged from his research work. Dr Gabaldón has been associated with Microomics since its inception, first as Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) and currently as Scientific Advisor.
He is an international leader in the fields of genomics and metagenomics, in both the computational and experimental areas. He has published over 300 scientific articles and has received recognitions such as being an elected member of the prestigious American Academy of Microbiology and the European Molecular Biology Organization, as well as becoming a corresponding member of the Royal Academy of Pharmacy.
He received the Margaret Dayhoff Award in recognition of his career, and is frequently listed among the most cited scientists in his field (Clarivate and Stanford lists, among others)
